Hippophae (Sea Buckthorn)
are deciduous shrubs in the family elaeagnceae. The name sea buckthorn is hyphenated to avoid confusion with the buckthorn. The berries provide nutrient rich protection against the signs of aging.
In ancient times, leaves and young branches from sea buckthorn were assumed to be fed as a remedy to horses to support weight gain and the appearance of their coat, thus, leading to the name hippophae (hippo-horse) and (phaos-shining).
More than 90% of about 1.5mn of the world's natural sea buckthorn habitat is found in China, Mongolia, Russia, Northern Europe, and Canada--where the plant is used for soil, water, wildlife conservation, and anti-desertification purposes, also, for consumer products, (wholeliving.com/wikipedia).
