South African President Jacob Zuma faced a backlash from the financial markets (yesterday); his abrupt decision to sack his finance minister sent the "rand" to record lows against the dollar and the pound.
The African National Congress has broadly pursued an orthodox and market friendly macroeconomic policy. Under Mr. Zuma, investors have become increasingly sceptical of this juggling act.
South Africa's rand weakened against the dollar by 5% and by 4.4% against sterling. The rand has hit record lows against both this year. Since the start of 2015, the rand has fallen 24% against the dollar and 22% against the pound.
Fitch downgraded South Africa's credit rating to triple B minus, one level above subinvestment grade, (The Financial Times/Andrew England-Johannesburg/December 11, 2015).
Data Collection & Data Analysis
Data analysis and predictive modeling have become important to program administration and to carriers. It is to understand the buying habits of customers; those who are making those decisions look at important factors such as price, coverages, services, and customer relationship. To tap into data effectively, understand the new insights in the markets that will help promote long-term success.
Target Markets will look more closely at data collection and analytics. The survey seeks to find out the kind of data the carriers collect, such as exposure data, risk management practices data, historic loss data, premium data, and data on limits. It seeks to find out whether data is captured electronically and whether carriers and program administrators share data with each other http://www.targetmarkets.com; the focus is on claims, loss data, and line of business information; innovation may not involve a lot of data.
Uses of Capital:
Carson proposed a flat tax rate, which would have everyone pay an income tax of 15% because he believes it will spark enough economic growth to offset the lower rate. Carson stated that the proposed tax would not increase the budget deficit because he would tax the entire economic output of the U.S.-the gross domestic product and capital gains.
A tax rate of 15% would be a huge tax cut for the wealthy, whose top income tax rate for individuals is 39.6% and the corporate tax rate is 35%, (Christopher S. Rugaber and Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press/Marietta Daily Journal, October 29, 2015).
Shares of Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) have shed 20% of their value since its peak early last month. August was bad, September hasn't delivered a bounce; the stock dipped for four consecutive trading days before bouncing back on Thursday.
It has been closing above and below the $100 mark all month. Thursday, the stock rose to over $100, but has closed in double digits nine of the past 14 trading days. It makes it a "buy" opportunity,
2015 has been difficult for commodity traders. The prices of agricultural products and related businesses fell below technical support levels. One common technique for determining the momentum of key commodities such as corn, live cattle, soybeans, cocoa, and wheat is to look at the chart of the Powershares DB Agriculture Fund (DBA).
This Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) is one of the most popular amongst agriculture investors and comes with an expense ratio of 89%.
It has been trading within a defined downtrend since late 2010 and the dotted trendlines have acted as strong levels of support and resistance. Currently, the price of the fund is trading near the lower support line, which suggests that the down trend is likely to remain in place for the rest of the year and into early 2016.
In all liklihood, bullish active traders will likely remain on the sidelines until the price is able to close above the upper trendline and its 200-day moving average...(Investopedia Commodities Trading, "Corn Traders are Bracing Themselves for More Selling," September 9, 2015).
Double Tap is a common price reversal pattern. It occurs when the price rallies to a high, pulls back, then rallies to a similar high before pulling back again. The first warning sign is the inability of the price to make a new high. It shows that the uptrend is losing steam. A double top chart pattern "completes" when the price moves below the pullback low seen between the two peaks.
When this occurs, the trend has reversed, most likely in the downward direction...the double top pattern provides a price target for each trade. It's the height of the pattern, which is the high minus the pullback low, subtracted from the breakout price (pull back low).
