The fix of choice
During stress, boredom, and sadness, your body remembers something that made you feel good previously. Once reacquainted with the event, the dopamine response system/reward center of the brain is activated, resulting in the thrill that helps to mask the negative feeling.
The brain remembers the high and wants more of it, giving the urge to repeat the behavior, whether now or later. You later find that you need more and more frequently, the stimulus to feel the same or get the same results, (DrOz/The Good Life/Jan, Feb 2016). Addiction can come in the form of food, sex, control, drama, excessive attention seeking, etc.
